4 separate gold & blue macaws were used in the making of the 1998 Australian movie, The Real Macaw.
a film about a macaw leading a
boy to buried pirate's treasure in order to help his aging grandfather.
*the blue and gold macaw is on the verge of being extirpated (weeded-out) in Paraguay, but it still remains widespread and fairly common in a large part of mainland South America. the species is therefore listed as Least Concern by BirdLife International.
blue-and-gold macaws are popular as pets because of their striking appearance and ability as a talking bird; however, their large size makes accommodation more problematic than traditional pets. they are intelligent and social, and make good and loving companions.
